Starting on May 20th, 2025 Higher-level vocational training programs (Formacion Profesional Grado Superior) is considered a Higher Education, which means you can apply for a long-term student visa type D both from your country of origin and from within a Spanish territory.

IntensityAs required for the student visa, the course is 20 hours per week (4 hours per day from Monday to Friday). The center is closed during weekends -
DurationThe course (and the visa) lasts from 2 to 3 years, depending on the chosen program. The residence card (TIE) is issued for the whole period -
50% onlineThere are 2 types of programs: Fully in-person and hybrid (50% online), which is allowed for the student visa. -

The International Higher Vocational Training program, spanning 2,5-3 years, transforms your future: it begins with a 6 to 12 months of total immersion in language and business, followed by two years of professional training in administration and finance, marketing, or international trade.
Program objectives are the following: to introduce international students to the Spanish business environment through an intensive training program that covers language skills, as well as training in management and marketing specifically tailored to Spanish companies.

About language courses and study visa to Spain
As of May 20, 2025, applications submitted from the Spanish territory are permitted only for higher education institutions (universities) or FP Grado Superior (advanced vocational training) programs. To apply, you must hold a Schengen visa (or have a legal stay with your passport) valid for at least 70 days, as the application must be submitted no later than 62 days before your visa expires.
Applications based on enrollment in language schools (language courses or university pathway programs) can only be processed through BLS visa centers or Spanish consulates located in your country of citizenship or legal residence.

Yes, for language courses, you are allowed one extension. This means you can study at a language school for one year and then extend your stay for another year.
After that, you must transition to a university (Master's or Bachelor's programs) or a vocational college (FP Grado Superior). You can submit your application while in Spain; this is not considered an extension, but rather a new application.

Both yes and no. Firstly, you can now only apply for a student visa for a language school if you are at least 18 years old.

Minor children or a spouse may accompany you only if you are pursuing higher education. Family members cannot accompany you if you are attending a language school. In other words, if you are a couple, both of you must apply as students, each enrolled in your own respective course.
As a language school student, you do not automatically have the right to work, but you can obtain it if you secure an employment contract. You may then request authorization to work up to 30 hours per week—in other words, you must first receive a job offer, and only then can you apply for the right to work.
